Red Carpet Dinner - Sat., Feb. 21st.

Featuring a 2001, 2002, and 2003 Sterling Red Carpet Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.

These wines are never sold to the public but are made for and served to the guests of the "Grand Red Carpet Dinner", prepared by Wolfgang Puck, before the "Oscar" presentations. Wolfgang was not available on that date so dinner will be prepared by Chef Valerie. I have a extra bottle of the 2003 Red Carpet Reserve. So this is what I propose. Everyone will receive a list with all the Oscar nominations. You pick all the ones that you think will win and the one with the best score, wins this rare bottle of wine.

Guests will also sample cabs. from Sterling's "Diamond Mountain Ranch". and Sterling Vineyard's Reserve, SVR/meritage. Canard Duchene Champagne was served with the fois gras and other appetizers. Then mushroom purses, with white truffle. Fillet mignon with a Roquefort cheese sauce. Dessert was pears poached in a red Bordeaux wine. Also, for dessert, a rare 1983 Chateau des Cocus du Layon. A botrytised chenin blanc from Loire Valley.

The winning wine by far was the 2001 Sterling Red Carpet Reserve. Not a surprise, condidering the vintage.

The next morning, Val & I reviewed the guests Oscar ballots. AND THE WINNER IS.........CHRIS SCHEID.
